Fiction Project - a sand dune adventure

As the majority of the story is set in the desert, I thought about where would be practical for me to go to do some drawing and remembered my mum mentioning that she wanted to visit the sandy nature reserve in Norfolk. So, we took the excuse and had a mini break in Holkham. Holkham beach is a beautiful nature reserve with vast amounts of sand, and, at least when we went, barely a soul around.

I found the landscape quite challenging to draw, just because it was so minimal - I tried to create as varied a set of drawings as possible considering this.

(^ this one is my favourite, may revisit this method for drawing sand?)

We were lucky enough to see two horses galloping through the sand! It was really beautiful against the endless landscape, and was quite inspirational for the desert chase scenes in the story.

We also visited Holme dunes - also beautiful and even more deserted, but it had more of a beachy feel rather than a desert - too many pebbles and shells.
